While the Mummers marched in Philadelphia members of the Spartan Wrestling Club were off to NYC for the annual Metro Wrestling Club holiday tournament. Club members Nick, Shaun, and Ed were cheered on by fellow club members Dennis, Sal and Craig.

With five wrestlers in the 74 kg weight class, Shaun was the first Spartan to wrestle that day easily defeating his opponent in the first period with a pin. Shaun’s next mach later that day ended with a pin as well due to a well executed cradle that was text book perfect. In the gold medal match Shaun was challenged strongly by Ross from San Francisco, Shaun held him off to win the match by points after the second period expired.
Wrestling for the first time as a Spartan and at 96 kg Nick had a long three period match against Jim from the host team Metro in NYC. Nick won the first period 6-4 lost the second 2-3 and won the third 5-3 it was a classic demonstration of why wrestling is considered the toughest six minutes in sports. The win also gave Nick the gold in his weight class.
There were six participants in the 84kg weight class where Ed faced off first against Josh from the Chicago wrestling club. Ed lost His first match with a pin by Josh. With his second match of the day against Manny from Metro Ed had a short first period with a
6-0 win followed up by a pin in the second period. This was Ed’s first victory in competition. He came home with the bronze in his weight class. Josh from Chicago took home silver after loosing to Kirk from Metro who did a spectacular 5 point throw on Josh to end the second period and take the gold.
