Spartans 2013 Pride Tournament
The Philadelphia Spartan Wrestling Club, New York Metro Wrestling, and competitors from other locations will be hitting the mats for the
ANNUAL SPARTAN PRIDE TOURNAMENTON SATURDAY JUNE 15, 20131:00 pm - 4:00 pm
Weigh-in starts at 12:00 pm
The officiated freestyle wrestling tournament is an AAU sanctioned event and will be held at
First Unitarian Church2125 Chestnut Street, Philadelphia
All wrestlers must be current members of AAU to participate. You can purchase an AAU membership at the tournament if you do not already have one.The Madison weight class system will be used. Weigh-ins start at noon.Spectators are welcome and encouraged to attend with $5 admission; competitors are $20.
Medals will be awarded to those who place.
The clubs' respective tournaments are key to helping the wrestlers stay on top of their game as well as celebrating the importance of contact sport and camaraderie.Many participating wrestlers have participated in regional tournaments like this one as well as the Gay Games here and abroad.
Come out and show your pride while cheering on your favorites.

Fall 2012 Tournament Results
The Spartans held their 2012 Fall Tournament on Saturday October 6. Competitors from Metro Wrestling in New York City made their way to Philadelphia by car and bike (yes, bicycle) to tangle with the us on the mats. We want give a hearty thanks to them and their friends for joining us.
The bouts were grouped into two weight classes: light weight and middle weight. An AAU sanctioned referer officiated on our regulation mats. Congratulations to these winners:
LIGHT WEIGHT GROUP

MIDDLE WEIGHT GROUP

The next Spartans tournament will be in June 2013.
The Spartans
The Spartan Wrestling Club is an adult recreational wrestling club dedicated to the enjoyment of freestyle wrestling. It was formed in 1991, and is open to participants with little or no wrestling experience as well as to those with folk-style/collegiate or other wrestling experience. The club meets weekly at the First Unitarian Church (basement) for practice. This is where members get to hone their skills and learn different moves and techniques. Through practice and training members can then participate in tournaments held in the region and with clubs in other cities. Members of the current Spartan Team have participated at the most recent Gay Games in Cologne, the Annual winter tournament in NYC, also at competitions in San Diego and Chicago. The Spartan Wrestling Club hosts its own June and October tournaments in Philadelphia each year.

The Spartans Wrestling Club was founded in 1991.
We are an all-volunteer organization open to any adult men and women interested in freestyle wrestling regardless of their previous wrestling experience or abilities.
